Free Press – At Art X Fest, It’s About Forging Community Through Art

You might eat some vegetables that Kate Daughdrill has grown on her small urban farm in Detroit. You might carefully navigate an asymmetrical floor constructed by Coco Bruner. You might remove a brick from Oren Goldenberg's sculpture composed of materials salvaged from the demolished Brewster-Douglass public housing project in Detroit. You might find yourself lying on the ground with 35 others, breathing into a pitch pipe helping to create a collective musical performance engineered by Ben Hall.

Art X Detroit is coming. Are you ready to play your part?

The biennial arts festival, which opens Thursday, features work by 38 winners of major grants from the Troy-based Kresge Foundation. The programming — which includes 50 free events and spans three weeks and nearly 20 venues in Midtown, downtown and Eastern Market — promises a remarkably diverse menu of visual art, music, dance, film, theater, literary events and interdisciplinary works.
