Free Press – Whirlwind Weekend Brings Festival to a Close

The three-week Art X Detroit comes to a close this weekend with a final two-day sprint of a dozen events on Saturday and Sunday.
By the time it's all said and done, the third biennial edition of the festival — which celebrates the 38 winners of individual artist grants from the Troy-based Kresge Foundation in 2013 and 2014 — will have included 55 events held in 20 venues across the city.
The final weekend is especially filled with music — there's jazz from drummer Gayelynn McKinney; techno from one of the pioneers of the genre, Juan Atkins; contemporary classical music from New Music Detroit, and more traditional chamber music and vocal works by David DiChiera. But there are also poetry readings, theater works, multimedia performances and interactive events.
